When I decided to learn to free motion quilt, I figured I would start small and work my way up. I started with a baby quilt and just used one of the stitches on my machine with my walking foot. I learned a lot with this one.
There are things I will do different on the next one. I need to learn how to hide my starts and stops better. My machine has a "fix" button, where it will put a knot in the the thread for you but as you can see in the picture it leaves a pretty noticeable one. Definitely something I will be researching before the next quilt.
Here is the finished quilt. I used the Moda Ticklish line for the fabrics, and the finished sized turned out to be 39 x 39. I also need to find a better spot for pictures. The shadows don't really work in this one. =) Still I think it turned out pretty cute. I love the bright colors of the fabric.
Not too bad for my first time quilting on my machine. I will just have to make more quilts so I can keep practicing. =)
And just for fun, some small tote bags I made with the fabric I had left.
Ooh I ADORE these fabrics and colours; both the quilt and the bags are really gorgeous. Well done on the quilting (and those fixed stitches are hardly noticeable from a regular viewing distance so don't worry yourself over them!) Great work!

DeleteGorgeous quilt and cute bags, Cindi. I agree with Jen: we will always see 'faults' when we look closely at our own work. I bury all my starts and finishes - fine when just FMQing as its just a few bobbin changes but I buried over 70 knots on my last quilt where the straight line quilting stop and starts were 'inside' the quilt ... now THAT'S a lot!! But it does give a lovely, tidy finish :)
